Record-Setting Cyclist’s Sudden Death

Marvin Atwood, an Encinitas resident, cycling enthusiast, and beloved husband, died on December 26th, 2008, almost instantly, of heart attack. An autopsy revealed an enlarged heart even though Atwood, 57, seemed to be in great shape.

In addition to leaving his wife Pam, and a world record for a west-to-east crossing of California, he will leave behind the sterling reputation of a man who truly loved cycling.
