Escondido Driver Swerves Into Bike Lane Then Flees Accident Scene

On Wednesday, November 18th, at about 8:30am, two teen-aged bicyclists were injured when a driver swerved into their lane. The boys, aged 14 and 13, were riding single-file in the Bear Valley Parkway bike lane, when an SUV swerved in front of them. The front rider managed to avoid the car when he swerved right and hit the curb, but the second boy ran into the first rider and was thrown from his bike.

At first the driver seemed cooperative, and stopped to see if the boys were OK. However, when they requested help the driver left.

Between the two of them, the boys were treated for cuts, bruises, and a potentially broken nose at the Palomar Medical Center in Escondido.

The woman, who hasn’t yet been found, was described to police as a petite Latino woman with shoulder length hair in a ponytail, a Spanish accident, and acne scars. She drives a tan SUV and was last seen driving north on Royal Crest Drive.

You can see the details at the North County Times website article here.

Thanksgiving can be a perfect storm for bicyclists on the road since people spend the day drinking. So, if you are going for a ride, be safe and extra-vigilant!

Gobble, gobble!
