Richard L. Duquette

Richard L. Duquette has been fighting for his clients since 1983. His family-owned law firm specializes in providing personal attention and quality representation to the people of Oceanside, Carlsbad, Vista, San Marcos, Fallbrook, Escondido, San Diego, Riverside, and Orange County. According to the prestigious Martindale-Hubbell Peer Review Ratings, Richard's legal abilities have been rated "exceptional", and his legal knowledge, analytical capabilities, judgment, communication ability, and legal experience have all been rated 5 out of 5. Whether you or someone you love has been arrested for a crime or injured in an accident, Richard and his staff have the knowledge, experience, and training to help.

If you have been arrested for a crime, you should know that Richard has obtained many "Not Guilty" verdicts for his clients in both felony and misdemeanor jury trials. But it is not just his success in the courtroom that leads clients to call him "an outstanding attorney", it is also his caring, personalized approach. Richard's clients express gratitude for his "superb representation and moral support" during criminal proceedings, and feel he is "very thorough and genuinely wants to get the best possible outcome." Richard and his staff strive to provide cost-effective, ethical, and quality assistance to clients at all stages of their proceeding, including trial by jury.

If you have been injured in an accident, you should know that Richard has recovered millions of dollars in settlements and verdicts in civil matters. As an avid bicyclist with over 34 years of personal racing and cycling experience, Richard understands how being injured affects your active lifestyle. Richard has a special aptitude for representing professional and recreational bicyclists--locals refer clients to him because of his reputation and expertise. He has obtained five-figure Jury Trial Verdicts for clients injured while bicycling, and for clients who were injured due to corporate negligence, and has helped many clients' secure six-figure settlements before the trial phase. Richard's clients say that he is "incredibly brilliant and a true fighter for his clients", and feel that "there is no one else they would rather have in their corner" during the challenging time after an injury. Richard and his staff strive to obtain the maximum recovery for client's injuries, pain, suffering, and change of lifestyle resulting from the negligence of others.

Richard's skills as a trial attorney are exceptional, and he has dedicated his life to the skill of trial lawyering. He has distinguished himself by obtaining advanced trial lawyer training from the Gerry Spence Trial Lawyers' College and the Western Institute of Trial Advocacy, and works tirelessly to better his skills. He uses sophisticated on-site mock trial and focus group strategies to understand how juries think, and consults with a network of seasoned attorneys so that he can provide his clients with the benefit of multiple legal minds and perspectives.

Richard is genuinely motivated to succeed because he cares about his clients and his community. He provides clients with honest, free advice, even if that means they can effectively handle their legal matters without him. Richard is completely committed to charging fair and reasonable fees for his services, and has very competitive rates in the local legal community. He has never worked for any government, big corporation, or insurance company, and is proud to have earned his reputation as one of the good guys.

Giving Back

A Community-Oriented Firm

My firm is community-oriented and focuses on giving back to the community, with a focus on supporting community athletics and making our roads safer for bicyclists. In addition to legal and political advocacy, I have been involved with many triathlons and bicycle races and have also participated in IRONMAN competitions. My dedication to the community bleeds through into my legal practice as I advocate for those who have been wrongfully injured or accused of a crime

As an avid cyclist myself, I regularly sponsor and volunteer for cycling events in San Diego County. I know your bicyclist rights and understand insurance coverage for bicyclists. In addition to my years of cycling experience, I have obtained the Traffic Skills 101 Certificate from the League of American Bicyclists. All of this establishes that I am highly qualified to handle your bike crash case.

Dedicated to the Individual Needs of Each Client

At the Law Firm of Richard L. Duquette, I take the time to connect with every single one of my clients. You’ll find plenty of lawyers who will take your money and do the bare minimum. But if you are looking for a dedicated advocate, look no further.

By understanding you and your situation on a personal level, including your family and friends, I improve my ability to prepare your case and win the results that you need the most. No two cases are the same and I will do whatever I can to maximize the outcome of your case. I am thorough and methodical in the way I handle cases, ensuring that nothing important is ever overlooked. I connect with the client, conduct a deep investigation of the facts, research the laws, file motions if necessary, conduct focus groups and mock trials as needed, and consult with other attorneys when beneficial.

Richard is an active participant in local politics and athletic events, and can be seen at races with his wife of over 20 years, Kim. In addition to running the family business, they enjoy running, bicycling, camping, fishing, and off-road ATV-Riding together. Richard's step-daughter is currently continuing their family legacy of community service through her pursuit of a Master's Degree in Professional Counseling.
